Pamela Cohen: Our Holistic Nutritionist

About Pamela, Our CAIN Licensed Holistic Nutrition Practitioner™ (CAIN-LHNP™)

Hi Pamela, tell me a little bit about what is it that you do?

I am a CAIN Licensed Holistic Nutrition Practitioner™ (CAIN-LHNP™) and a Certified Childhood Nutrition Specialist (CCNS).  My primary responsibilities begin with providing clear and basic nutritional education, while evaluating the complete and holistic health history; physical, mental, emotional and environmental well-being, lifestyle habits and current diet of my client, looking at the individual as a whole instead of focusing on one aspect.

 Why Consult with a Nutritionist?

How would you begin to evaluate an individual?

I start with a friendly meeting to get to know the client and for the client to know me.  I gather bits and pieces regarding the client’s health history, concerns, emotional state, diet and lifestyle, to understand the root cause of their health issues and concerns, as well as their fears regarding change.  I take the time to explain a bit about the process and our commitments to one another before we begin our journey to a healthier lifestyle. My goal is to empower and educate my clients to improve their health with the use of nutrient dense food, natural supplementation and lifestyle recommendation.  Once we have an understanding and an agreement, I give them a thorough client assessment form to complete on their own and send back to me.

Why is the conventional system of going to see your doctor isn’t enough?

Working with a holistic nutritionist can help you with all health concerns that are not necessarily showing any symptoms yet, including digestion, stress, anxiety, hormonal issues, high blood sugar (not high enough to flag the dr. for medication), weight loss and more.  When working with a holistic nutritionist you will have the opportunity to work with someone who follows and promotes this understanding of health and wellness that’s suitable for you.  It is not a one size fits all, or looking at one aspect of the person and ignoring the root cause of their health issues.  I can then create a personal approach to begin the healing process.

Any important guidelines for healthy living?

Eating whole foods, non-toxic living as much as possible and conducive to the client’s current lifestyle, movement, exercise and sleep are all so important for optimal health.

What tests do you need to create a better profile?

We rely on any medical history the client is wiling to share.  Most recent blood tests, complete list of medication, urine tests and a gene methylation test if necessary.

 Why do we need nutritionists?

Holistic nutritionists are skilled at using the power of food to heal and prevent disease as well as reverse nutritional deficiencies.  In addition to food, and only after reaching an optimal lifestyle we supplement with vitamins, minerals and targeted amino acids if needed.  We provide 1:1 coaching where we evaluate the client’s individual dietary needs and customize a detailed nutrition plan, taking into consideration the client’s health and exercise level. I personally offer counseling and suggest positive alterations promoting healthy lifestyle; assisting clients in achieving their health goals, and educating them about nutrition and healthy eating.

How would you combine the Chronic Pain Reprocessing therapy?

Chronic Pain Reprocessing therapy certification has been so helpful as so many of my clients can not begin their journey into healthier lifestyle because of an unexplained debilitating chronic pain manifesting as; lower back pain, shoulder pain, pelvis pain, knees pain or even migraines.  This blocks them from even attempting to make any changes in their lives.  But through neural circuit assessment and provocative testing we can begin to shine a light and bring emotional awareness to where pain really comes from, and thus begin to unlearn this pain, reduce the fear and anxiety at even the thought of pain, and with graded exposure eliminate any pain in the given area.
